Laura Schwab-Reese
Using translational research, Dr. Laura Schwab-Reese identifies ways to help children and young people whose interests are underrepresented in current systems and interventions. She focuses particularly on leveraging technology to develop low-cost, widely accessible interventions for adolescents experiencing maltreatment. Her extensive background in child maltreatment, health promotion, counseling, and biostatistics enables her to transcend disciplinary boundaries that have historically hindered effective responses to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). She has established ongoing partnerships with academic and community stakeholders across diverse fields, including computer science, social work, counseling, emergency medicine, and other non-clinician professions. Dr. Schwab-Reese emphasizes collaboration with local partners to create interventions and systems embedded within communities, ensuring that these initiatives are both effective and sustainable by utilizing existing resources and addressing local priorities.
Dr. Schwab-Reese is an associate professor of public health at Purdue University. She holds a PhD in Community and Behavioral Health from the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa and has also earned a graduate certification in biostatistics and a master’s degree in mental health counseling.
