/

SAVIR is honored to announce the establishment of the Sixto and Zenaida Ramirez Immigrant Legacy Award for Early-Career Scholars, a new annual award that celebrates the resilience, generosity, and enduring impact of Sixto and Zenaida Ramirez. Their journey as immigrants to the United States exemplified perseverance and a lifelong commitment to helping others build meaningful and successful lives — values that continue to inspire this award.

About the Award

The Sixto and Zenaida Ramirez Immigrant Legacy Award recognizes early-career researchers — including postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty — who show exceptional promise in advancing the science of injury and violence prevention.

This award celebrates individuals whose research demonstrates innovation, rigor, and potential for high impact, particularly projects that:

  • Foster community engagement,
  • Contribute to the health and safety of diverse populations, and
  • Address disparities or support underserved or minoritized communities.

Applicants of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Eligibility is based on research contributions, professional achievements, and potential for community impact, not personal immigrant status.

Applications open November 15, 2025. The application deadline is 11:59 pm ET on December 31, 2025. The awardee will be notified by February 15, 2026.

Eligibility

Early-career investigators (e.g., postdoctoral scholars, assistant professors, or equivalent positions) actively engaged in injury and violence prevention research are invited to apply. Preference will be given to projects demonstrating strong community engagement or impact on populations experiencing disparities.

Award Details

  • Frequency: Presented annually at the SAVIR Annual Conference
  • Award Amount: $500 honorarium
  • Recognition: Honored during the conference awards ceremony
