SAVIR 2025 Annual Conference: A Resounding Success in NYC
The Society for Advancement of Violence and Injury Research (SAVIR) held its 2025 Annual Conference on April 7–9 in New York City (with pre-conference workshops and board meetings on April 6). Co-hosted by Columbia University’s Center for Injury Science and Prevention, the event drew hundreds of participants from across the country. Over 330 abstracts were submitted, resulting in a rich program of scientific sessions, workshops, and networking opportunities. Author Jessie Singer delivered the opening keynote, emphasizing the importance of storytelling in translating research to action and setting an inspiring tone for the conference.
This year’s conference was particularly meaningful as it brought researchers together during a tumultuous time for the field. The atmosphere was optimistic, with a palpable energy of solidarity. Attendees shared new ideas and creative strategies to continue advancing violence and injury prevention despite current challenges. Many participants left feeling reinvigorated to push their work forward. On social media, members highlighted the engaging sessions and sense of community – as one attendee noted, “now more than ever, it’s important for us to learn from one another, work together, and continue to advocate for what we need to keep families safe”. From passionate panel discussions to collaborative workshops, SAVIR 2025 sparked renewed commitment to innovative solutions that will save lives.
