NEW: SAVIR will host a Consensus Workshop at SAVIR 2025 Conference in NYC, titled: Shaping the Future of Injury Prevention: A Consensus-Driven Research Agenda

Investments in injury and violence prevention research have the potential to impact more children and adolescents than any other health topic. This is particularly crucial given that injury and violence remain the leading causes of death and disability at every stage of childhood after the first year. Despite this pressing need, there is a notable lack of National Institutes of Health (NIH) Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) and Requests for Applications (RFAs) specifically devoted to injury and violence topics. Additionally, there are few study sections dedicated to these critical areas.

The upcoming Consensus Workshop at SAVIR 2025 will provide a vital platform for addressing these gaps. Participants will have the opportunity to give feedback on a drafted Society for Advancement of Violence and Injury Research (SAVIR) consensus statement. This statement will highlight priority areas in injury and violence prevention and underscore the urgent need for increased research funding. The workshop aims to gather diverse perspectives from experts in the field, ensuring that the consensus statement is comprehensive and reflective of the current challenges and opportunities in injury and violence prevention.

One of the primary deliverables of this meeting will be a column published in the journal Injury Prevention. This column will present the SAVIR consensus statement, outlining the priority areas for injury and violence research and issuing a call for increased funding. By publishing this statement, SAVIR hopes to raise awareness among policymakers, researchers, and the public about the critical need for more focused and adequately funded research in these areas.

The Consensus Workshop at SAVIR 2025 represents a significant step towards addressing the disparities in research funding for injury and violence prevention. By bringing together experts and stakeholders, the workshop aims to create a unified voice advocating for the necessary resources to protect and improve the health and safety of children and adolescents.
