Research!America is accepting applications for our Civic Science Microgrants and Awards Program, which includes two complementary components: Civic Engagement Microgrants and Public Engagement Content Awards. Research!America’s Civic Engagement Microgrants, now in its ninth year, provides funding for student- and post doc-led public engagement projects.

Funding is open to groups of early career researchers who want to design and execute nonpartisan civic engagement activities and create dialogue with local communities and public officials around scientific research, technological innovation, public health and other topics of common interest. We welcome novel ideas! Participation in this program affords early career researchers the opportunity to build transferable skills in communication and public policy, gaining relevant experience for careers in and outside of academia. Micrograntees receive guidance and support from Research!America staff and build connections with other participants.

Research!America has also launched a third year of the Public Engagement Content Awards, which are stipends up to $5,000 to create curriculum in science communication and other public engagement skills. This opportunity is open to junior faculty in STEMM and STEMM-adjacent fields, PhD candidates, post-docs, and professional degree candidates. These opportunities are generously supported by the Dana Foundation, the Lasker Foundation, and science communicator Dennis Mangan. The Kavli Foundation provides additional support for Civic Engagement Microgrants for scientists affiliated with the Kavli Foundation network. We hope you will consider applying for or sharing both these opportunities with your peers. The application deadline for the Civic Science Microgrant and Awards program is Nov. 20.
