Systems created by policy shape our population’s health and safety outcomes, both for better and for worse. Empirically assessing policy through Legal Epidemiology methods is accordingly crucial to advancing injury and violence prevention. Listen to SAVIR’s discussion of Legal Epidemiology to understand the scope of its applications, and its value to the field! Invited panelists will speak to how to access policy data and related platforms, how to discern what existing legal epi data is of the quality caliber necessary to be appropriate for use in research, and how to rigorously assess relationships between policy data and public health outcomes. This discussion will also extend SAVIR’s prior discussion on Indigenous Methods by addressing the challenges that present in applying legal epidemiology method norms to Indian Law, and the consequences of the dearth of Indigenous researchers, and researchers with training in Indigenous methods.
