Drowning Prevention Research Interest Group

At the SAVIR conference in 2024, several researchers met during a workshop on building equity and shared their research activities around drowning prevention. Finding common ground, they expressed interest in establishing a drowning prevention interest group as part of SAVIR.

Now, SAVIR is partnering with Safe Kids and we are inviting all of those interested to attend an initial meeting of the group at SAVIR 2025, where we will discuss the plans for the interest group and the initial draft of the US National Water Safety Action Plan (USNWSAP) research agenda. The agenda, based on evidence gaps put forward by the USNWSAP working groups and a childhood drowning prevention research summit hosted by the National Drowning Prevention Association (NDPA) in 2022 is intended to provide guidance to researchers and funders on key applied research questions to move the drowning prevention field forward.
