Funding Alert: Kaiser Permanente Center Opens 2026 Fall Funding Opportunity

The Kaiser Permanente Center for Gun Violence Research and Education has opened its 2026 Fall Funding Opportunity, and SAVIR members working at the intersection of healthcare and firearm injury prevention should take note.

The Center is seeking to fund research that strengthens healthcare-based approaches to firearm violence and firearm suicide prevention. Specifically, the opportunity supports projects that meaningfully engage communities in rigorously evaluating healthcare-based prevention or intervention strategies — with the goal of informing systems-level change in hospitals, federally qualified health centers, and other community-based care settings. Priority will be given to projects that:

• Inform healthcare systems change (clinical workflows, policies, financing, data systems, partnerships, or organizational practices)
• Focus on firearm violence and/or suicide prevention or intervention
• Meaningfully engage communities most impacted by firearm violence
• Strengthen the next generation of the firearm injury prevention research workforce
• Plan for translation and dissemination of findings throughout and beyond the funding period

Funding amount: Up to two projects will be funded, at a maximum of $1,250,000 each over three years.

Eligibility: Nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charities, government entities exempt under IRS code 501(c)(3), or groups with an established 501(c)(3) Model A or C fiscal sponsor.

• October 2: Informational webinar (2 PM ET / 11 AM PT) — register here
• October 14: Letters of Intent due by 3 PM ET / 12 PM PT
• February 2027: Applicant status notifications
• March 24, 2027: Full proposals due (for selected applicants)
• June 2027: Funding decisions announced
