Participate in Safe States Alliance Nontraditional Data Survey
Good morning,
We invite you to participate in a brief survey to gather your insights on the use of nontraditional data sources in injury and violence prevention (IVP). As background, Safe States, in conjunction with Fourth Economy, is working to conduct a landscape analysis to gain a comprehensive understanding of nontraditional data sources for IVP, including successes and challenges in data access. Safe States plans to operationalize the findings from this landscape analysis by convening an injury surveillance workgroup to develop expert consensus-based recommendations to improve the use of nontraditional data and IVP measures through enhanced surveillance and data systems. Your perspective is crucial as we continue to explore ways to enhance IVP strategies.
For this survey, it’s helpful to understand the distinction between traditional and nontraditional data sources:
Traditional Data Sources: These are the established, standardized, and often institutional data sources you’re likely familiar with in public health surveillance, including IVP. Think of things like hospital records or mortality statistics.
Nontraditional Data Sources: These are emerging, community-based, or unconventional data sources not originally intended for injury or violence surveillance, but that can offer valuable insights. This may include things like social media posts, community surveys, or geospatial data.
This survey focuses specifically on your experience and perspectives regarding nontraditional data sources in IVP. It should take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. You can access the survey here.
Thank you in advance for your time and valuable contribution!
