Kathy Belton, PhD, Director And Adjunct Professor, Injury Prevention Centre, School of Public Heath, University of Alberta
Tell us about your areas of interest within injury and violence prevention. Why did you decide to pursue a career in this field?
My focuses on knowledge translation for the prevention of unintentional injuries and my areas of interest are concussion, motor vehicle and farm-related injuries and falls prevention for seniors. I was drawn to a career in injury prevention as a result of sustaining a life altering injury at the age of 18.
How long have you been a member of SAVIR? What has been your favorite part about being involved with SAVIR?
I’m not sure how long I have been a member. My favorite part of being involved with SAVIR is the connection to new research.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of your career so far?
Seeing behavior change in audiences such as seniors and rural populations due to a Centre initiative.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Hiking, reading mystery novels, baking, and gardening.
