SAVIR Member Spotlight: Paula Gildner, MPH

My interest in this injury prevention began many years ago when I was teaching migrant workers English. I met them in the fields and saw the dangerous nature of their jobs and the deplorable conditions in which they lived. Friends who were in public health convinced me that I should pursue a career in this field. Thus, my journey began! I have worked in many areas in injury and violence prevention and enjoy learning as my role has evolved. I am currently working with some projects on TBI and harm reduction and overall Center operations.

How long have you been a member of SAVIR? What has been your favorite part about being involved with SAVIR?

To be quite honest I can’t remember how long I have been a member of SAVIR. I have been with UNC IPRC for 15 years and the Center has been a member for as long as I can remember! My favorite part about being involved with SAVIR is the people and the work that SAVIR does. Everyone is so passionate about the field of injury and violence prevention, and it is nice to know there are others out there who do such great work.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of your career so far?

I would like to think that the work I have done has made an impact in some place with some people. Just the thought of that possibility is rewarding to me.

What do you like to do in your free time?

What free time with two dogs, a teen and a spouse!?!?!?!
