Your Voice is Needed in Support of Injury and Violence Prevention

The start of 2026 brings ample opportunities to engage in advocacy efforts aimed at protecting federal injury and violence prevention programs including funding for the Injury Control Research Centers (ICRCs) and firearm injury prevention research.

It’s important to note that despite efforts to eliminate all funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (Injury Center), both chambers of Congress are advancing appropriations measures that retain most of the Injury Center’s funding. Notably, the Senate Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations bill proposes to fully fund all current Injury Center-administered programs in FY 2026!

As the appropriations process advances in the days ahead, it is vital that Representatives hear from their constituents urging that they support the Injury Center funding levels proposed by the Senate. The House Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations bill proposes a more limited funding level of $665 million.

The best way to ensure that Representatives acquiesce to the Senate funding levels is for SAVIR members to engage in the policymaking process by contacting their Representative today! Please take a few minutes to visit the Advocacy Action Center where you can easily send an email to your Representative urging support for the continued funding of all Injury Center programs!

Additionally, SAVIR, Safe States, and the Injury and Violence Prevention Network are organizing its annual Hill Day scheduled for March 23 rd in Washington, DC. Please consider joining your colleagues on Capitol Hill to spend the day meeting with members of your Congressional delegation to promote the important injury and violence prevention work being done in your state. Your participation will help expand the reach of our Hill Day and strengthen our voice in support of injury and violence prevention policies in Congress.
