SAVIR is now accepting nominations for our annual awards and open Board of Directors seats! This is your chance to recognize outstanding colleagues—or put yourself forward—for leadership and achievement in the field of injury and violence prevention.

Awards

The following awards will be presented at the 2026 Annual Conference taking place April 13-15, 2026 in Providence, Rhode Island:

• SAVIR Excellence in Violence and Injury Prevention Science – To recognize a mid-career to senior-level scientist whose leadership, research, and service have led to important advancements in violence and injury prevention science. Each year, members are invited to submit nominations and a review committee selects a recipient based on criteria that reflect the mission of SAVIR and scientific advancement in violence and injury prevention research.
• SAVIR Early Career Excellence Award – To recognize an early-career scientist, generally fewer than ten years following completion of last degree or training, whose noteworthy, innovative, and scholarly contributions have the potential for substantial influence in the understanding of violence and injury prevention. Each year, members are invited to submit nominations and a review committee selects a recipient based on criteria that reflect the mission of SAVIR and scientific advancement in violence and injury prevention research.
• SAVIR Mentorship Award (*New for 2026*) – To honor a SAVIR member who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to mentoring students, early-career professionals, and colleagues in the field of violence and injury research, policy, and practice. Nominees should exemplify the values of inclusive, supportive, and impactful membership, fostering growth, collaboration, and leadership among the next generation of researchers and practitioners. Awardee will be chosen by the SAVIR Student and Early Career Professionals Committee and the SAVIR Awards Committee. 
• SAVIR Advocacy Award (*New for 2026*) – To recognize a SAVIR member who has demonstrated outstanding dedication and leadership in advocacy and/or policy translation initiatives to prevent injury and violence at the local, state, or national levels. Awardee will be chosen by the SAVIR Advocacy and Policy Committee and the SAVIR Awards Committee.
• SAVIR Excellence in Communication Award (*New for 2026*) – The Excellence in Communication Award recognizes a SAVIR member who has effectively translated complex ideas into accessible and impactful messaging that engages diverse audiences and promotes evidence-based action. Honorees demonstrate excellence in developing and delivering content that informs, engages, and advances violence and injury prevention efforts.

Board of Directors

Two Director seats (3-year term beginning April 2026) are open. As outlined in our bylaws, these positions will be filled through competitive elections. This role provides an opportunity to contribute to strategic planning, organizational governance, and initiatives that support SAVIR’s diverse membership and promote interdisciplinary collaboration.

All applications and nominations must be submitted by November 10, 2025. Instructions are provided within each application form, and you’ll need to log in to the portal to submit.
