In September 2024, Dr. Elizabeth O’Neal, Science Committee Co-Chair for the Society for the Advancement of Violence and Injury Research (SAVIR), was invited by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) to provide expert input on their proposed Strategic Plan. Dr. O’Neal swiftly assembled a dedicated team of experts to craft a comprehensive response, urging NICHD to prioritize research on injury and violence prevention (IVP) across the lifespan.
This impactful contribution sets the stage for SAVIR’s upcoming Consensus Workshop: Shaping the Future of Injury Prevention – A Consensus-Driven Research Agenda at the annual SAVIR conference in April 2025. This event marks a pivotal moment as SAVIR brings together top researchers to shape a research agenda that will drive future injury prevention efforts.
SAVIR extends its gratitude to the team of co-authors who played a key role in this response:
- Elizabeth O’Neal, MPH, PhD – University of Iowa, SAVIR Science Committee Co-Chair
- Dabney P. Evans, PhD, MPH – Emory University-Rollins School of Public Health
- Justine Broecker, MD – University of California, San Francisco (UCSF)
- Hannah Rochford, PhD, MPH – Texas A&M University
- Elyse Thulin, PhD, MSc – University of Michigan
