Applications are now open for mentors and mentees to participate in the SAVIR 1:1 Mentorship Program! Apply by October 20, 2026.

Strong mentorship can make a meaningful difference in the development of the next generation of injury and violence prevention (IVP) researchers and practitioners. The SAVIR 1:1 Mentorship Program helps bridge mentorship gaps by connecting students and trainees with accomplished professionals in the field for a year of individualized guidance, support, and professional development.

A Year of Individualized Mentorship

The overarching goal of the program is to provide students and trainees with the skills, insight, and support they need to build successful careers in injury and violence prevention.

Through a one-on-one mentor-mentee relationship, participants can focus on the areas that are most relevant to their goals and career stage. Mentees may seek guidance and support with:

  • Career development and navigating career decisions
  • Learning new research methodologies
  • Grant writing and developing funding applications
  • Building professional networks
  • Positionality and developing a reflective research practice
  • Research outputs, including abstracts and manuscripts
  • Other professional or research goals identified by the mentee

Program Leads are also available to support mentees and mentors throughout the process, including helping participants develop a mentorship agreement, clarify and narrow mentorship goals, and troubleshoot challenges that may arise.

Who Can Participate?

The program is open to students and trainees at the master’s, post-master’s, doctoral, and post-doctoral levels.

Mentees must be SAVIR members to participate. Preference will be given to mentors who are SAVIR members.

Whether you’re a student looking for guidance as you navigate the next stage of your career or an experienced IVP researcher or practitioner interested in supporting an emerging colleague, the SAVIR 1:1 Mentorship Program is an opportunity to build meaningful professional connections and strengthen the IVP community.
