ADVOCACY ALERT: Update Resources and tips for responding to OMB’s Proposed Federal Financial Assistance Rule by July 13th

We are working closely with partners and organizations to understand how best Proposed changes to OMB’s Federal Financial Assistance Rule will have immediate and drastic impacts on scientists, universities, scientific societies, patient advocacy organizations, state governments, and the scientific endeavor. OMB is proposing complete political control of federal science funding.

Act Now! The public comment period closes approximately on July 13, 2026. This is your chance to have your voice heard. Comments must be submitted to regulations.gov, Docket OMB-2026-0034.

Actions you should take before July 13th.

Call your lawmaker. Let them know you do not support these changes.
Leave a comment by July 13th. Comments can be made with your name or anonymously. It is critical that comments are substantive and distinct.

Unique. Make sure you do not use a form letter as this will not count as an individual comment and will be compiled and counted as one comment. The government is required to respond to all individual comments.
Detailed. Speak from your own experience. Be sure to quantify what you can, e.g., meeting guideline X will increase administrative burden by Y (increased person hours to comply or money taken from programmatic work to fulfill administrative requirements).
Citations. Not required, but, if possible, cite.
