Appropriations Process Largely Stalls in Advance of Midterm Elections

Despite approval by the House Appropriations Committee of all 12 appropriations measures under its jurisdiction for FY 2027, including the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations bill, which carries funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (Injury Center), action needed to finalize the bills has stalled and likely will not resume until after the midterm elections in November.

The pause in action provides an opportunity to continue to educate lawmakers in Congress about the value and impact of Injury Center-funded research programs in your community. Next month, members of Congress will be home during the August recess to campaign in advance of the midterm elections. SAVIR, in concert with Safe States and its Keep America Safe Campaign, is encouraging members of the injury and violence prevention research community to meet with lawmakers to simply educate them about the work that you do. The best way to protect Injury Center funding for research efforts is to talk to your elected officials about the impact this work has on the communities they represent.
