Congressional Appropriations Process Advances
On the heels of finalizing the House and Senate “Dear Colleague” letters in support of full funding in FY 2027 for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (Injury Center), appropriators in Congress are now turning their attention to drafting the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations bill which, stipulates funding for the Injury Center.
The House Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Subcommittee announced that it will meet on June 9th to consider its appropriations bill and while the Senate has not yet announced their timeline, senior appropriators in the Senate have voiced support for meeting to consider their version of the bill by the end of June. As a result, June will provide the first opportunity to see what appropriators are proposing for the Injury Center in FY 2027.
As the appropriations process marches forward in Congress, SAVIR and Safe States are monitoring how the Injury Center hiring process is advancing and what barriers, if any, exist with Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approval required for all Injury Center notice of funding opportunities (NOFO) and notices of award (NOA). If you are experiencing a delay in seeing a NOFO or NOA that you were expecting, please contact Safe States’ director of government relations, Paul Bonta, at Paul.Bonta@safestates.org. The quickest way we learn of funding barriers is directly from grantees.
