SAVIR Student Spotlight: Ann Richey, MPH

Ann Richey, MPH, PhD Student, University of Washington, Department of Epidemiology
What are your injury and violence prevention research interests?
My research interests include policies for preventing interpersonal violence among adolescents and young adults, as well as approaches using mixed methods. During my MPH, I worked as a research assistant on a project examining the implementation of school policies and programs for addressing teen dating violence in high schools, and an evaluation of a sexual violence prevention program for middle schools.
What is something you enjoy about participating in a SAVIR committee as a student?
I enjoy participating in the Student and Early Career Professionals SAVIR committee because I appreciate the peer mentorship through this committee and connecting with other injury and violence prevention professionals across different organizations and institutions. Everyone is so supportive, and it has been helpful to learn from other students and professionals as I start my PhD.
What motivates you every day?
I feel motivated and inspired by my mentors! I feel lucky to work with such an interdisciplinary team who are invested in my professional development and research interests.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy hiking, camping, and snowboarding in Washington State – bringing my dog with me wherever I can.
