Urgent Call to Action: Support Funding for the CDC’s Injury Prevention Center
In anticipation of the president’s FY 2027 budget request to Congress that was just released proposing to eliminate all funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (Injury Center), SAVIR and Safe States have been working with their champions in Congress to urge that appropriators fully fund the Injury Center in the annual appropriations process.
Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Ed Markey (D-MA) and Brian Schatz (D-HI) are currently circulating a “Dear Colleague” letter in the Senate, which allows their colleagues to sign-on to the letter noting their support for “a robust” investment in the Injury Center. The letter is addressed to Senate Appropriations Committee leaders and the goal is to secure as many signatures on the letter as possible. The more Senators on the letter, the greater the likelihood that appropriators will work to fully fund the Injury Center as they start crafting their FY 2027 appropriation bills.
To help build support for the Senate letter please visit the advocacy action center to ask that your two Senators sign-on in support of the Injury Center. Importantly, a companion letter just finished circulating in the House that drew bipartisan support for the first time ever!
There are currently hundreds of such letters circulating in the Senate right now as Senators work to build support for the programs they care about most. The reality is that Senators and their staff do not have the time to sift through each letter that comes across their desk so they rely on their constituents to point them to the letters that deserve their support. As a result, your voice is critical!
The deadline to sign on is April 16.
