The Regional Gun Violence Research Consortium (RGVRC) at the Rockefeller Institute of Government invites applications for one postdoctoral fellowship in gun violence research. As the issue of gun violence requires a multidisciplinary lens to understand the causes, consequences, and responses, and in line with the composition of the RGVRC, we welcome applicants with a PhD from all relevant fields including (but not limited to) criminal justice and criminology, sociology, psychology, public health, epidemiology, social work, anthropology, and the law. Scholars utilizing quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed methods research designs and analytic techniques are encouraged to apply. The primary area of research interest/specialization is open, but it must be related to gun violence.

This in-person position, located in Albany, NY, oOers a competitive salary for up to two (2) years with benefits. A research fund of $10,000 will be available to provide support for professional development, conference attendance and travel, and/or project-related expenses. The start date is flexible (either January, June, or September 2026). Doctoral candidates are encouraged to apply, though a terminal degree (e.g., PhD, Dr.PH,

or equivalent) must be awarded prior to start date.

The selected postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to collaborate on Consortium-led research projects while also pursuing an independent research agenda, including developing grant proposals and designing and executing new studies. As the RGVRC is housed in a public policy institute, research translation to policymakers and the public is a priority, and the selected fellow will have the opportunity to develop public-facing research products (e.g., policy blogs and briefs) in their area of specialization. They will also have the opportunity to liaise with local lawmakers and other vested stakeholders to support gun violence prevention eOorts in New York State.
