Monday, September 14 | Research Translation + Collaboration

President’s Series: Research Translation: Why It Matters and How to Do It

Translating research beyond the academic setting is increasingly important—but knowing how to communicate your work clearly and effectively can feel daunting.

In this hands-on workshop with Dr. Cassandra Crifasi, participants will learn strategies for translating research for news media, policymakers, the public, and professional audiences. The session will cover how to strategically translate research materials, leverage social media, and develop a compelling elevator pitch.

You’ll have an opportunity to practice developing and delivering your own research elevator pitch, making this a practical session you can immediately apply to your work.

Networking: The Last Mile of a Project

Make Your Research Heard: Writing Op-Eds That Shape Policy

Estimating the Population Burden of CTE: Methods for the First Community-Based Case-Control Study of Traumatic Brain Injury and Neurodegeneration

2:00–3:30 PM ET | Open to All

What can population-based research tell us about the relationship between traumatic brain injury and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE)?

This session will explore the methods behind a community-based case-control study designed to address questions that existing brain-bank research cannot fully answer—including how common CTE is in the population and whether traumatic brain injury increases the risk of developing it.

Presenters will walk through the study design and causal logic, recruitment through an operating trauma service, brain donation and neuropathological examination, and next-of-kin interviews assessing lifetime traumatic brain injury exposure.

The practical format will include time for discussion, making this an especially valuable session for clinicians and researchers considering similar population-based research.

Meet the Funders: Priorities and Opportunities in Injury & Violence Prevention Research

Precarious Employment: Examining Occupational Health Disparities in Injury and Violence Exposure

1:30–3:00 PM ET | Open to All

Workers in precarious occupations often face heightened risks of injury, violence, and poor health outcomes, yet their experiences are frequently overlooked in research and policy.

This interactive discussion will bring together researchers and a policymaker to explore how employment conditions contribute to occupational health disparities across diverse work settings, including trucking, agriculture, and commercial fishing.

Panelists will discuss emerging research, common challenges, policy implications, and opportunities to advance prevention efforts. Attendees will be encouraged to participate and engage directly with experts working to improve the health and safety of vulnerable worker populations.
