Are you a student or early-career professional planning to attend the SAVIR 2027 Annual Conference in St. Louis? Now is the time to apply for scholarships, awards, and other opportunities designed to support and recognize the next generation of injury and violence prevention researchers.
Applications and nominations are now open for several SAVIR 2027 opportunities, with a deadline of October 20, 2026.
Student Scholarship — Increased to $750!
Student scholarships help offset travel costs for students presenting an abstract at the SAVIR Annual Conference. Thanks to a generous pledge from the Kaiser Permanente Center for Gun Violence Research and Education, the student scholarship has increased from $500 to $750 for 2027.
Any student who submits an abstract is eligible to apply.

Early Career Scholarship & Awards
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Marizen Ramirez and Henry Xiang, SAVIR offers two $500 awards recognizing promising early-career investigators advancing the science of injury and violence prevention:
Sixto and Zenaida Ramirez Immigrant Legacy Award for Early-Career Scholars
Recognizes early-career researchers—including postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty—who demonstrate exceptional promise, innovation, rigor, and potential for high impact in injury and violence prevention research. Work that fosters community engagement or addresses disparities and the health and safety of diverse populations is especially encouraged.
Xiang-Liu Family Emerging Investigator Award in Violence and Injury Science
Recognizes emerging investigators conducting rigorous, evidence-driven, and methodologically innovative research in violence and injury prevention, with preference for work demonstrating strong quantitative or mixed-methods approaches, causal inference, innovative research design, or community-engaged methods.
Student Plenary Speaker
Share your research and personal story with the SAVIR community! Each year, the Student and Early Career Professionals Committee selects a student to give a plenary presentation at the annual conference.

Mentorship Program
SAVIR members can apply to participate in our annual 1:1 mentorship program, connecting students and early-career professionals with experienced members of the injury and violence prevention community. Conference attendance is recommended but not required to participate in the program.

Student Paper Prize — Students who submit an abstract to SAVIR 2027 will have the opportunity to submit a paper for review and scoring. The highest-scoring paper will receive the Student Paper Prize at the annual conference. Applications open in January 2027.
Awards for Best Student Presentations — Students and early-career professionals presenting oral and poster sessions at SAVIR 2027 are eligible for awards recognizing outstanding scientific presentations. Winners will be selected during the conference.
Mentor Mingle Session — Connect with experienced professionals and fellow students and early-career researchers at this interactive mentoring session during the annual conference. Indicate your interest when you register for SAVIR 2027.
